In an unprecedented move, the Supreme Court commenced a special Lok Adalat on Monday at 2 PM, allowing media cameras inside its chambers for the first time.
This week-long special Lok Adalat is part of the celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of the Supreme Court of India. The initiative aims to ease the backlog of cases by facilitating amicable settlements in disputes with elements of settlement.
Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud has urged citizens and lawyers to bring forth cases suitable for the Lok Adalat, emphasizing its voluntary, consensual nature as a technology-based solution for speedy resolutions.
