Lawmakers to Grill Secret Service Acting Director Over Trump Assassination Attempt
Senate lawmakers are set to question Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe regarding law enforcement lapses before the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. This hearing follows Kimberly Cheatle's resignation and will feature FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate. Investigations revealed shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks researched mass violence and government targets online.
Senate lawmakers are poised to interrogate Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe on Tuesday over lapses in law enforcement leading up to the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. This is part of a series of congressional hearings centered on the shooting incident.
Rowe assumed his position last week following the resignation of Kimberly Cheatle, who faced intense scrutiny and criticism during a House hearing about the communication breakdowns prior to the July 13 shooting. Joining Rowe at the hearing will be FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate.
The hearing takes place a day after the FBI disclosed new findings in its investigation, including that gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, had sought online information about mass shootings, power plants, and improvised explosive devices. The investigation also revealed Trump, set to be the Republican nominee for the 2024 election, would be interviewed by the FBI as a crime victim, following his remark that he expects the interview to occur on Thursday.
