CBI Nabs Fugitive Declared Dead: V Chalapathi Rao's 20-Year Hide-and-Seek Ends

The CBI has successfully apprehended V Chalapathi Rao, a fugitive who managed to evade capture for 20 years following his involvement in a bank fraud case.
A press release from the investigative agency disclosed that Rao eluded arrest by constantly changing his identity and location.
Initially, Rao was accused in 2002 of cheating SBI Chandulal Biradari Branch, Hyderabad, out of Rs. 50 lakh through fabricated documents. Despite multiple chargesheets and a declaration of death by a civil court, the CBI relentlessly pursued him, leading to his arrest in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu.
