Ukraine's Largest Long-Range Drone Strike Hits Russian Military Airfields
Ukraine conducted its largest long-range drone strike targeting four Russian military airfields overnight, as reported by a Ukrainian security source. The operation aimed to weaken Moscow's aerial attack capabilities. The effectiveness of the strike is still under assessment. Russia claimed to have intercepted multiple drones and missiles.
In a significant escalation, Ukraine has executed its most extensive long-range drone strike of the conflict, targeting four key Russian military airfields, a Ukrainian security source revealed on Wednesday.
The nocturnal strike focused on the air bases in Voronezh, Kursk, Savasleyka, and Borisoglebsk, intending to disrupt Russia's capability to launch gliding bomb attacks on Ukrainian territory. The Ukrainian source added that efforts to assess the full extent of the damage were ongoing. However, Reuters has not yet independently verified these claims.
In response, Russia's defense ministry reported that its air defenses successfully destroyed 117 drones and four tactical missiles launched by Ukraine. This development occurs as Ukrainian forces attempt to advance in Russia's Kursk region, following a surprise operation that has marked their most significant battlefield progress since 2022. The governor of Ukraine's northeastern Kharkiv region noted a decrease in guided bomb attacks on border settlements since the Ukrainian incursion began last week.
