Wide Protests in Delhi Over Kolkata Rape-Murder Case

Delhi Police have issued prohibitory orders in central areas of the national capital in response to multiple organizations calling for protests against the Kolkata rape-murder case on Friday, officials said.

Police deployment has been increased, with Section 163 (prohibitory orders) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) imposed around Parliament and other parts of central Delhi, according to officials.

A Delhi Police officer stated that the city remains on high alert due to the upcoming Independence Day celebrations. The announced protests have led to traffic diversions at some intersections in central Delhi, he added.

The alleged rape and murder of a trainee woman doctor at the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata have sparked widespread protests nationwide.

Resident Doctors' Associations (RDAs) from institutions like AIIMS and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital have announced a protest near Nirman Bhawan on Friday.

The Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) has organized a candle march at India Gate at 6 pm.

Delhi University's Krantikari Yuya Sangthan is set to protest at 2 pm at Mandi House, while Congress's student wing NSUI has called for a protest at 7.30 pm at Jantar Mantar.

Earlier in the day, hundreds of women participated in a march organized by the RSS-linked Nari Shakti Forum, protesting against alleged atrocities committed against minorities in Bangladesh. The march started at Mandi House and will end at Jantar Mantar.
