Government Forms 23rd Law Commission with Supreme Court Judges
The government has established the 23rd Law Commission for a three-year term, consisting of serving Supreme Court and high court judges. The commission will have a full-time chairperson, four full-time members, and up to five part-time members. Ex-officio members include legal affairs and legislative department secretaries.

The government has announced the formation of the 23rd Law Commission for a period of three years, comprising serving Supreme Court and high court judges as its chairperson and members.
The 22nd law panel's term concluded on August 31. As per a law ministry order issued late Monday through a gazette notification, the new panel will have a full-time chairperson and four full-time members, including a member-secretary.
The secretaries of the Department of Legal Affairs and the Legislative Department will serve as ex-officio members. Additionally, the order specifies that the Commission cannot have more than five part-time members. Serving judges in the commission will perform their duties on a whole-time basis until they retire or the commission's term ends, whichever is sooner. The time spent on Commission duties will be considered as 'actual service'.
