A security guard in Maharashtra's Palghar district has been accused of fatally beating a stray dog, leading to a police case, officials reported on Saturday.

The Nalla Sopara police took action against Pankaj Singh, invoking Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) section 325 and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

The crime, committed on August 26, was highlighted when an animal lover informed People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). Notices have been served to the accused and the hiring agency as further investigations proceed.
