On Sunday, West Bengal witnessed numerous rallies advocating justice for a doctor allegedly raped and murdered at RG Kar Hospital last month. Spearheading a protest in Howrah city, Union minister and BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar emphasized the need for justice, holding a placard reading 'Justice for Tilottoma'.
'We are part of the mass protests demanding justice for the woman doctor. The administration has shielded the guilty, placing blame on one accused. The people of Bengal remain vigilant and dedicated to protest. Our party stands with them,' Majumdar stated. Media outlets have referred to the deceased doctor as 'Tilottama' to protect her identity, following a Supreme Court order against identifying rape victims.
Around 800 alumni and students of 20 schools also rallied for a safe environment for women. 'Our key demands are justice for Tilottoma, equality for women, and enabling FIRs against perpetrators,' said Garima Ghosh, an alumnus. Meanwhile, about 200 working professionals and retirees marched, calling for the CBI to expedite the probe.
The trainee doctor's body was found in the seminar room of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, prompting the Central Bureau of Investigation to take over the case.
