Moldova has raised alarm after two Russian 'decoy' drones intruded its airspace and crashed within Moldovan territory on Sunday. According to local police, the drones were discovered in the villages of Borosenii Noi and Firladeni, post a Russian drone strike on Ukraine.
Moldova's Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi expressed strong condemnation of these aggressive intrusions, reiterating Moldova's stance against Russia's aggressive actions in Ukraine. The nation, strategically positioned between Ukraine and Romania, a NATO member, is striving to join the European Union by 2030 under President Maia Sandu's leadership.
The drone incident comes amidst an escalating series of Russian drone assaults on Ukraine, with over 2,000 drones reportedly launched in October. A Ukrainian official revealed Russia's strategy of deploying inexpensive 'decoy' drones alongside regular attack drones to deplete Ukrainian defenses. During one such attack on Sunday night, at least two injuries and structural damage in Odesa were reported.
