The Delhi High Court has granted bail to a co-accused in a high-profile money laundering case linked to irregularities within the Delhi Waqf Board under AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan's leadership. Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri decided in favor of Jawed Imam Siddiqui, noting his custody since November 2023, as the trial remains stalled at the document supply stage.
The court emphasized that with numerous accused, voluminous evidence, and extensive witness lists, the trial's conclusion is not expected soon. The court criticized using Section 45 of the PMLA to prolong Siddiqui's detention, highlighting the inherent right to a fair trial.
Considering the facts, including the primary accused's bail and ongoing trial challenges, the court ordered Siddiqui's release on bail with specific conditions. This decision stresses the right to liberty even amid stringent legal provisions. The case originates from alleged financial misconduct in the Delhi Waqf Board, with the Enforcement Directorate and CBI investigating significant financial irregularities.
