In a forward-looking farewell address, Rajiv Kumar, the outgoing Chief Election Commissioner, underscored the necessity of adopting a totaliser system for maintaining confidentiality in voting patterns. He emphasized the empowerment of NRIs to cast their votes from abroad as a significant leap in electoral reforms.

Kumar called for a consensus on remote voting mechanisms, which he sees as essential for millions of migrant voters. He advocated for mandatory online reporting of political finances for enhanced transparency and analytics. Moreover, Kumar stressed the critical need to regulate unbridled social media algorithms that pose risks to election integrity.
