Namal Rajapaksa, the eldest son of former Sri Lankan leader Mahinda Rajapaksa, has been legally charged by the High Court in a case involving the alleged misappropriation of funds from an Indian investment prior to 2015.

Currently serving as a member of parliament for the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, he is the only Rajapaksa actively holding a political position amid accusations of a political witch hunt.

The legal proceedings are set to advance in March. Namal, a former international rugby player, was initially arrested in 2016 for allegedly diverting funds worth 70 million Rupees from the Krrish Hotel project into rugby development. The project, situated in Colombo, remains incomplete to date.
