Farmers Stand Firm as Talks with Centre Continue in Chandigarh

The ongoing negotiations between Indian farmers and the central government are poised for another round of talks this Saturday in Chandigarh. Central to the discussions is the farmers' demand for a legal guarantee on the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops. This follows a series of meetings that began in February, which have so far produced limited results.

Farmer leaders Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Sarwan Singh Pandher, representing the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, have been invited to the meeting. The continued dialogue comes after a prolonged protest movement, underscoring the importance of resolving these issues. Farmers are additionally calling for debt waivers, pension plans, and justice for victims of the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi had previously indicated a willingness to further engage with the farmers, highlighting past government efforts to support the agricultural community. However, the farmers remain steadfast in their demands, hoping for more concrete action. The outcome of these discussions could have significant implications for India's agricultural policy and farmer welfare.
