Swedish police announced an investigation into possible sabotage targeting an undersea telecommunications cable in the Baltic Sea on Friday. This development comes amid heightened alerts in the region, following a series of disruptions to power, telecom, and gas infrastructure since the onset of the Ukraine conflict in 2022.

According to Mathias Rutegard, a spokesperson for Swedish police, the break occurred within Sweden's economic zone, prompting a thorough probe. Finnish telecom company Cinia identified minor damage to its C-Lion1 link between Finland and Germany, but maintained that the cable's functionality remained unaffected.

In what marks the third such incident in recent months, no evidence currently implicates civilians, yet the constant alert persists. Swedish coast guard has deployed a vessel to the site, and Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson expressed heightened concern over potential threats to vital undersea infrastructure.
