Diverse Oaths Mark BJP's Return in Delhi Assembly

The newly formed Delhi Assembly began with MLAs taking their oaths in various languages, showcasing linguistic diversity. The session saw BJP returning to power after 26 years and the election of Arvinder Singh Lovely as pro-tem Speaker. BJP's decisive win replaced the Aam Aadmi Party after a decade.

The inaugural session of the reconstituted Delhi Assembly commenced on Monday, illustrating the region’s rich linguistic tapestry as MLAs took their oaths in six different languages: Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Urdu, Maithili, and Punjabi. This session signifies the BJP's return to power after a 26-year hiatus, with their members now occupying the right side of the Speaker's chair.

Arvinder Singh Lovely, a BJP MLA, was installed as the pro-tem Speaker by Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena at the Raj Niwas. Lovely, the assembly's senior-most legislator, supervised the swearing-in of the newly elected members.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta led her six Cabinet ministers in taking their oaths. A range of languages were utilized by other members, although some deviations in format drew attention. The session marks a pivotal moment in Delhi's legislative history, with BJP securing 48 out of 70 seats in the recent elections, decisively ending the Aam Aadmi Party's decade-long rule.
