Russian forces are concentrating efforts to establish a combative zone in Ukraine's northeastern Sumy region, adjacent to Russia's Kursk, said Ukraine's border guard spokesman on Monday. This move intensifies the pressure on Ukrainian defenses, months after Kyiv's cross-border ambitions intended for stronger negotiation leverage.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's visit to Saudi Arabia on Monday marks a pivotal moment as discussions with U.S. officials aim to end the ongoing conflict. According to spokesman Andriy Demchenko, small Russian assault groups are engaging in infiltration attempts to secure a strategic foothold and potentially disrupt Ukrainian logistical routes.

Ukraine's border guards employ artillery to fend off these incursive actions, forestalling any significant expansion of hostilities. Reports indicate that, in the past day, Ukrainian forces successfully resisted 27 Russian assaults around Kursk. Meanwhile, the Russian defense ministry claims the recapture of three settlements, raising concerns over potential encirclement of Ukrainian troops.
