India Strengthens Ties with Afghanistan's De Facto Authorities
India has reinforced its engagement with Afghanistan under the Taliban regime, highlighting a strong historical connection and offering humanitarian assistance. Discussions between Indian and Afghan officials have emphasized bilateral relations, security concerns, and potential development projects, aiming for a stable and peaceful Afghanistan.
India has reiterated its commitment to maintaining robust ties with Afghanistan, interacting with the Taliban regime on critical issues. This discussion took center stage at a UN Security Council meeting, where India emphasized its significant people-to-people bond with Afghanistan, a cornerstone of its current engagement with the nation.
India's Ambassador to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish, highlighted the bilateral dialogue held earlier this year between Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Afghanistan's Acting Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi in Dubai. Key topics included regional developments and ongoing humanitarian aid, with India planning additional development initiatives.
Harish underscored India's active role in fostering stability and peace in Afghanistan through regional and international collaborations. Since 2001, India has been involved in over 500 projects in Afghanistan, addressing critical needs in health, food security, and education. India's collaboration with UN agencies further aims at supporting Afghan welfare, including aiding the vulnerable drug-affected population.
