In a significant legal development, a court in Thane has cleared three men accused of attempting to extort money and conspiring to commit murder. The acquittal comes after the prosecution failed to present substantial evidence linking the accused to the alleged crimes.
The accused, all residents of Shanti Nagar in Mira Road, Thane, were described by the prosecution as having plotted from December 2021 to March 2022 to extort Rs 25 lakh from the complainant. However, the court found forensic evidence and identification videos insufficient in proving their involvement.
Principal District and Sessions Judge S B Agrawal's ruling highlighted the prosecution's inability to demonstrate that the accused were involved in the purported conspiracy, leading to their acquittal amid significant questions about the integrity of the investigative process.
