The Bihar government has announced an extension for the completion of its comprehensive land survey initiative, moving the deadline from July 2026 to December 2026. This extension aims to ease public inconvenience while ensuring greater transparency in the updating of land records.
State Revenue and Land Reforms Minister Sanjay Saraogi revealed this decision in the Assembly during discussions surrounding the department's budget, amounting to Rs 1.955.98 crore. The survey aims to support land dispute resolution and provide the government with a clearer understanding of its land assets for potential infrastructural projects.
The deadline extension reflects existing challenges, including technical glitches, in updating land records. The minister also mentioned that the March 2025 deadline for landowners to submit property self-declarations might see an extension, amid concerns about land distribution delays raised by the opposition.
