The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather announced the formation of a business advisory committee after tensions erupted between BJP MLAs and National Conference members on the Assembly floor. The committee, intended to streamline the legislative process, will be comprised of nine members from both the ruling and opposition parties.

An official spokesperson confirmed Rather will lead the committee. Complying with Rule 317 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in J-K Assembly, he appointed members from multiple parties, including BJP's Leader of Opposition Sunil Kumar Sharma and NC's Ali Mohammad Sagar and Mubarik Gul. The development was reported to address concerns over the functioning of the Assembly.

Speaker Rather granted Sham Lal Sharma's request to potentially extend the session, especially to allow new members to discuss grant demands. Tensions briefly flared over the non-formation of the committee, resulting in a verbal exchange between BJP's Sharma and Education Minister Sakeena Itoo. However, Mubarak Gul, acting as Chair in Rather's absence, managed to defuse the situation.
