India has warned the UN Security Council about the heightened risks faced by peacekeepers as they confront non-state actors, armed groups, and terrorists amid complex conflicts. Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish emphasized the need for justice for perpetrators of crimes against peacekeepers during a UN debate on enhancing peace operations.
Harish highlighted the evolving challenges, including misinformation and new-age weapons, that confront peacekeepers today. He urged troop-contributing nations to enhance personnel capabilities and integrate advanced technology to improve operational effectiveness.
Additionally, greater resource allocation and involvement of troop-contributing countries in mandate formulation are essential. India's commitment to these goals includes offering training to address modern peacekeeping demands and promoting the critical involvement of women in peace operations.
