The Supreme Court is being called to address the harmful influence of betting apps on young people, with a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) demanding their immediate ban. The plea, raised by evangelist K A Paul, also targets celebrities who promote these platforms, urging legal actions against those influencing their audience adversely.
According to Paul, there's been a distressing increase in suicides associated with online gambling, with 978 cases reported in Telangana alone over the past year. He argues that the financial and mental stress fostered by these apps is jeopardizing the nation's future.
Paul praises Telangana Police for filing FIRs against 25 celebrities but warns against superficial arrests. He sets a 72-hour deadline for endorsers to apologize and return their earnings, failing which he demands their arrest.
