Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba, a BJP member of the Rajya Sabha, has urged the Indian government to take immediate action to identify and deport illegal immigrants in Manipur. This issue was brought up during the Zero Hour in the Upper House as a measure to protect the state from demographic changes.
Leishemba highlighted that the current law and order situation in Manipur does not support changes in the electoral constituencies. He pointed out a 122% increase in the number of villages in certain districts from 1969 to 2024, attributing it to illegal immigration.
The BJP MP warned that illegal immigrants are exploiting the Indo-Myanmar border to influence electoral politics. He called for the NRC's implementation with 1951 as the base year to detect and deport these immigrants, emphasizing that this is crucial to preventing further demographic imbalance in Manipur.
