Delhi High Court Maintains Momentum in 2019 Jamia Violence Case
The Delhi High Court refused to stay proceedings against activist Sharjeel Imam, who faces charges for allegedly inciting violence in 2019. Imam has challenged these charges, arguing they are baseless and lack evidence. The matter will continue on April 24 as responses from Delhi Police are awaited.

The Delhi High Court, on Thursday, opted not to halt the criminal proceedings involving activist Sharjeel Imam concerning the 2019 Jamia violence case. A local trial court had previously ordered charges be framed against Imam, labeling him an instigator and major player in inciting the unrest.
Justice Sanjeev Narula called for a response from Delhi Police to Imam's appeal, which challenges the March 7 order. Imam argues the charges are devoid of substantial evidence, as his petition claims wrongful interpretation of his speech.
The investigation, conducted by Delhi Police's Crime Branch, traces the issue back to protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act, which sparked demonstrations at Jamia Millia Islamia and Shaheen Bagh in late 2019. The case is scheduled for further hearing on April 24.
