Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has once again appealed to the Indian government to intensify diplomatic measures aimed at stopping the frequent arrests of Indian fishermen by Sri Lankan authorities. He proposed a tripartite dialogue to resolve the ongoing issue.
Stalin emphasized the need for the central government to provide robust consular and legal support to ensure the quick release of the detained fishermen and their vessels. His appeal followed the recent incident involving the detainment of 11 fishermen from Rameswaram by the Sri Lankan Navy.
According to Stalin, more than 147 fishermen have been arrested, and 19 boats seized by the Sri Lankan Navy in the last three months, marking an alarming rise in such incidents. Despite prior efforts, he asserted that the situation has worsened, necessitating immediate action.
