CBI Director Praveen Sood's Tenure Extended: A Distinguished Career Continues

The central government has extended the tenure of CBI Director Praveen Sood by one year. The decision was made by a committee led by Prime Minister Modi. Sood, an experienced IPS officer, has been influential in high-profile investigations and enhancing criminal tracking systems.

On Wednesday, the central government extended the tenure of Praveen Sood, the Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), by one more year.

Sood, who assumed the role of CBI director on May 25, 2023, originally had a two-year term. The decision for his extension came after a selection committee meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the committee also including Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.

An officer of the 1986 batch of the Indian Police Service (IPS) from the Karnataka cadre, Sood is well-regarded for his hands-on approach and expertise in handling complex and high-stakes cases. His initiatives in bolstering the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) and the Interoperable Criminal Justice System (ICJS) have been noted as significant achievements.
