Stockholm Stands Firm Against US DEI Rollback Pressures

The Stockholm City Council has taken a firm stand against the US Embassy's call to align with the Trump administration's rollback of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies.
This move follows US President Donald Trump's broader efforts to eliminate DEI initiatives within the federal government and beyond, as articulated in his inauguration address, which criticized these programs for 'socially engineering race and gender into every aspect of public and private life.'
Similar requests have been made to various European entities, including cities in France, Belgium, and Spain, which have also resisted the imposition of US anti-DEI policies. Despite an appeal from the US Embassy in an email dated April 29, Stockholm officials have outrightly refused to sign a certification disavowing DEI programs, maintaining their stance on the matter by choosing not to respond officially.
