Congress Pushes for Expansion of Reservation Limits in Bihar

The Congress reiterates its demand to include the Bihar reservations law in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution, amend the Constitution to exceed the 50% reservation cap, and implement Article 15(5) for SCs, STs, OBCs, and EBCs in private institutions. The Congress party has reaffirmed its stance on expanding reservation limits in Bihar, seeking to incorporate the state's law into the Constitution's Ninth Schedule. The party also calls for a constitutional amendment to surpass the existing 50% cap on reservations to empower marginalized communities.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh emphasized the party's commitment to addressing these fundamental issues during the Monsoon session of Parliament. He highlighted the need for reservations in private institutions as outlined in Article 15(5), which has remained largely unimplemented despite being upheld by the Supreme Court.

Jairam Ramesh referenced previous moves by the Narasimha Rao government and pointed out the ongoing challenges posed by the Supreme Court judgments. His statements coincided with Prime Minister Modi's visit to Bihar for the launch of several development projects.
