Supreme Court Issues Contempt Notices Over Allegations Against Judge

The Supreme Court has issued contempt notices to a litigant and his lawyers for making disparaging allegations against a sitting Telangana High Court judge. Chief Justice B R Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran are presiding over the case, which involves accusations against a judge from a petition regarding the Telangana Chief Minister.

The Supreme Court has taken stern action by issuing contempt notices to a litigant and his lawyers for making scurrilous allegations against a sitting judge of the Telangana High Court. This decision emerged from a plea that accused the high court judge of bias in a case involving Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

In a bench led by Chief Justice B R Gavai, the top court refused the withdrawal of the petition, emphasizing the need to protect the judiciary from baseless allegations. The petitioner, N Peddi Raju, sought a transfer of the case, but the court was firm in maintaining judicial integrity.

The case also highlights a previous judgment against unwarranted summons of lawyers by the ED for legal advice. The notice directs the accused to state why contempt proceedings should not ensue, with a return date set for August 11. The deliberate attempt to withdraw remarks was dismissed by the court.
