No Update Decision on National Population Register Yet, Says Government

The government announced that no decision has been made regarding updating the National Population Register (NPR), according to a statement in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai confirmed that a census is scheduled to begin in June 2025, conducted in two distinct phases.
The initial phase will focus on houselisting and housing conditions, while the latter phase will involve a demographic evaluation, including caste enumeration.
