In a historic appointment, Sonali Mishra, a 1983 batch IPS officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, took charge as the Director General of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Friday, becoming the first female to hold this position in the force's 143-year history, according to the Railway Ministry.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet confirmed her tenure until October 31, 2026. Known for her exemplary professionalism and leadership, Ms. Mishra has served in various critical policing roles, including as Additional Director General of Police and Director of the Madhya Pradesh Police Academy.
Her prior service in the CBI, BSF, and with the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Kosovo, combined with her numerous awards, is expected to drive innovation and inclusivity within the RPF. She aims to focus on modernizing the force, particularly in preventing organized crimes like human trafficking.
