Tight security marked the commencement of the trial on Monday for the 19 individuals accused in last year's devastating attack at a Moscow concert hall. The carnage left 149 dead and more than 600 wounded, marking one of the capital's deadliest assaults in recent history.
The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the March 22, 2024, massacre at Crocus City Hall. Gunmen indiscriminately fired upon concertgoers awaiting a rock band performance before setting the venue ablaze, causing widespread panic and devastation.
Amidst accusations by President Putin, suspects were captured shortly after the attack, some visibly beaten, while others face charges in absentia. Russian authorities continue investigating with allegations of international involvement, which have been refuted by Ukraine's leadership.
