An active shooter situation at Fort Stewart prompted a lockdown on Wednesday, according to a spokesperson for the sprawling Army post in southeast Georgia.

Fort Stewart, the largest Army installation east of the Mississippi River, is situated southwest of Savannah, Georgia.

Lieutenant Colonel Angel Tomko told The Associated Press that it remains unclear if anyone has been injured. In a Facebook post, Fort Stewart advised personnel in the affected area to "stay inside, close and lock all windows and doors."
