Supreme Court Scrutinizes Adjournments in Elgar Parishad Case
The Supreme Court addressed the delays in hearing the bail plea of advocate Surendra Gadling, accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case. Gadling has been in custody for 6.5 years, with the bail plea postponed 11 times. The NIA challenged his bail, citing links to Maoist activities.

The Supreme Court on Friday acknowledged the frequent adjournments in the bail plea of Surendra Gadling, an advocate accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case, aiming to expedite the hearing process.
A bench headed by Chief Justice B R Gavai promised his early listing after senior advocate Anand Grover highlighted that Gadling had been imprisoned for 6.5 years, with his bail plea adjourned 11 times. The earlier bench had also postponed the hearing linked to activist Jyoti Jagtap and other co-accused.
The NIA has also challenged the bail granted to activist Mahesh Raut by the Bombay High Court. Gadling faces charges under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act for aiding Maoists and plotting with other accused, involving alleged sharing of confidential government information.
