Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) announced the successful interception of a Ukrainian drone targeting the Smolensk nuclear power station. The drone, identified as a Ukrainian-made 'Spis' UAV, was intercepted using Russian electronic warfare systems over the weekend.
The Smolensk nuclear power plant, a Soviet-era installation with three reactors similar to those of Chernobyl, experienced no operational disruptions or damages as a result of the attempted attack. The plant remains fully operational, according to a statement from the facility.
While Russia's defense ministry confirmed the incident, Ukraine has not commented on the claims. The ongoing provocations by unmanned aerial vehicles highlight the escalating security concerns surrounding nuclear facilities in the region.
