Kerala's Custodial Crisis: Opposition Demands Action

The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has launched a fierce critique against the Kerala government, citing a series of alleged custodial torture cases. The party has urged Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to surrender the Home department portfolio due to escalating incidents.

Roji M John, a Congress legislator, accused Vijayan of dismissing police misconduct as isolated instances, contributing to the department's decline. He referenced several alleged torture incidents at Kunnamkulam, Peechi, and Kundara stations.

The opposition demanded immediate action against implicated officers and called for an in-depth assembly discussion. Meanwhile, Left legislator Xavier Chittilappilly disputed the accusations, attributing them to political maneuvering.
