Supreme Court Orders CBI Probe into Alleged Forged Degree

The Supreme Court has instructed the Central Bureau of Investigation to verify the authenticity of an advocate's degree from Magadh University, following claims that his educational certificates are forged. This decision arose from an appeal against the Bar Council of India's disciplinary committee's ruling.

The Supreme Court has mandated a thorough investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the alleged forgery of an advocate's degree, purportedly from Magadh University. This comes after the institution claimed that the documents in question were not authentic.

In response to an appeal challenging the Bar Council of India's disciplinary committee's decision, the apex court bench, comprising Justices Manoj Misra and Ujjal Bhuyan, initiated the probe. The court had previously reviewed a letter from Magadh University's controller of examinations, which asserted that the lawyer's degree and marksheet were fabricated.

As part of the proceedings, the advocate submitted a photocopy of his alleged Bachelor of Commerce degree from Magadh University, obtained in August 1991. However, he argued that records might not be available due to their destruction. The CBI is tasked with investigating these claims and reporting back by November 3.
