FIFA President Gianni Infantino has reiterated that while football cannot resolve geopolitical conflicts, it must serve as a beacon of peace and unity. Speaking in Zurich, Infantino highlighted football's potential to unify a divided world and empathized with those suffering from global conflicts.
Amid mounting pressure, FIFA faces calls to suspend Israel from international football due to military actions in Gaza. Infantino, however, stressed that such decisions require broad consensus and careful handling in collaboration with member confederations.
FIFA Vice President Victor Montagliani emphasized that decisions about Israel's involvement in European competitions rest with UEFA. Meanwhile, Amnesty International has raised the stakes by urging FIFA and UEFA to take decisive action against the Israel Football Association.
