European Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic has reached out to Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao, inviting him to Brussels for urgent discussions on China's tightened restrictions on rare earth exports. Sefcovic highlighted the importance of addressing these concerns promptly to maintain stable EU-China relations.

During a news conference, Sefcovic announced that Minister Wang accepted the invitation, with plans to engage their respective teams under the upgraded export control dialogue established post the July EU-China summit. This move indicates a mutual desire to resolve the matter amicably.

Although the EU is keen to avoid escalation, the trade restrictions have put a strain on EU-China relations, emphasizing the necessity for a swift resolution to ensure ongoing cooperation and economic stability between the two powers.
