Ford's Global Vehicle Recall: Addressing Rear-View Camera Glitches

Ford announced a recall of approximately 1.45 million older vehicles in the U.S. due to defective rear-view cameras, extending warranty coverage on millions more. This recall follows the automaker's global recall last month, impacting 1.9 million vehicles with similar issues.

The recall was initiated after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) inquired about camera complaints in January. Affected models include various 2015-2020 Explorers, Escapes, and Mustangs among others. Dealers will assess and replace cameras to mitigate crash risks.

In an agreement with NHTSA, Ford plans to address all analog-camera-equipped vehicles from 2015-2025, offering some recalls and a 15-year warranty plan on others. The automaker faces a $165 million civil penalty for delayed recalls. This year, Ford has been dealing with numerous recalls for diverse defects, including camera and seatbelt issues.
