Taiwan Deepens U.S. Defense Collaboration Amid Rising Tensions
Taiwan's defense ministry aims to strengthen its collaboration with the U.S. through increased communication and joint military exercises to maintain regional stability. Despite lacking formal diplomatic ties, the U.S. remains Taiwan's crucial ally. This cooperation addresses increased Chinese military pressure and aims to reinforce Taiwan's defense capabilities.
Taiwan is bolstering defense ties with the United States, the island nation's primary international ally, despite the absence of formal diplomatic relations, as tensions with China mount.
The defense ministry in a report to parliament outlined plans for reciprocal visits, military exercise observations, and strategic dialogues, emphasizing U.S. collaboration in maintaining peace in the Taiwan Strait. The Pentagon, however, refrained from commenting.
Current U.S.-Taiwan military cooperation includes F-16 pilot training in Arizona, amidst China's escalated military harassment near Taiwan. The defense ministry accuses China of psychological and tactical provocations, underscoring the regional security threats.
