The government of Manipur has launched a training initiative aimed at equipping police personnel in Chandel district with skills needed for the biometric registration of illegal immigrants. This area is crucial as it shares an international border with Myanmar.

Deputy Commissioner Laishram Nandakumar highlighted the presence of illegal immigrants in various border districts, including Chandel, during the training event. Manipur has a 398-kilometer stretch with Myanmar, most of which remains unfenced, emphasizing the urgency of this measure.

Despite these efforts, internet connectivity poses a hurdle to efficient registration, particularly in remote areas. The Assam Rifles are being called upon for support to ensure connectivity, allowing timely completion of the biometric registration process.
