In a landmark judgment, the Kupwara district court sentenced Pakistani terrorist Hanzallah Yaseen Raie, also known as Abu Ukasa, to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. Raie was found guilty of participating in an attack against security forces in 2016.

The court noted Raie's voluntary confession and the absence of injuries to security personnel as mitigating factors for a lighter sentence. The judgment included sentences under the Arms Act and Foreigners Act, all to run concurrently.

Raie has been in custody since June 20, 2016, and could be released by mid next year. Post-sentence, he will be processed under the Foreigners Act, potentially facing repatriation to Pakistan.
