The Delhi High Court has issued a directive for social media intermediaries to respond within three days to Bollywood actor Salman Khan's lawsuit seeking protection of his personality rights. The order follows an increasing trend among celebrities to safeguard their image and likeness.
Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora plans to issue a detailed interim restraint order concerning other implicated parties in the matter. The court's ruling mandates that platforms treat Khan's case as a formal complaint under the stipulations of the Information and Technology (Intermediaries Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
In Khan's plea, he requests to halt unauthorized use of his name, images, and persona by social media and e-commerce platforms. Other celebrities have similarly sought legal action to protect their publicity rights, highlighting the growing importance of such rights in the digital age.
