The Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing of Chaitanya Baghel's appeal about his arrest in a controversial liquor scam to January. Baghel, son of the former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister, is contesting his arrest and challenging the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
At the hearing, Baghel's lawyer, Kapil Sibal, raised concerns before Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi about the arrest practices of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), claiming defendants are arbitrarily detained while investigations continue.
The bench stressed the necessity for a comprehensive hearing instead of a fragmented approach. This came amid multiple investigations into scams allegedly linked to the period when Bhupesh Baghel served as Chief Minister.
