Tensions have escalated at the NH-66 as police registered a case against about 500 individuals for alleged vandalism at the Arikady toll plaza. Demonstrations, led by an action council, disrupted operations, causing major traffic congestion.

The protest, which unfolded around 7 pm, spotlighted the opposition to toll collection. Arrests were made, including of Manjeshwar MLA A K M Ashraf. Despite arrests, the movement against toll collection persists, citing violation of guidelines requiring toll plazas to be spaced at least 60 km apart.

In defense, toll operators explained the temporary setup at Arikady was due to incomplete construction at the originally planned Chalingal location. The Kerala High Court previously dismissed petitions against the toll plaza, but appeals are underway.
