The Supreme Court on Thursday expressed apprehension about the disorder in the Calcutta High Court on January 9, prompted by an overwhelming crowd that led to the adjournment of proceedings concerning the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) operations at the I-PAC office.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) legal wing of using WhatsApp to instigate the gathering. 'This is what happens when mobocracy replaces democracy,' he remarked, highlighting the unmanageable crowd's impact on court activities.
Addressing claims of obstruction against Mamata Banerjee, the Supreme Court emphasized the severity of the allegations and agreed to investigate interference by state agencies in central probes. The court has suspended an FIR against ED officials related to the raid, urging state police to preserve the raid's CCTV records.
