In a significant crackdown against drug trafficking, Assam Rifles personnel seized 9.8 kg of methamphetamine tablets worth approximately Rs 29.4 crore during an operation on the outskirts of a city in Assam, officials reported on Thursday.
According to an Assam Rifles official, the operation was launched following credible intelligence on narcotics trafficking. Acting swiftly, the paramilitary troops intercepted a vehicle in the Zemabawk area on Wednesday. Upon thorough inspection, they discovered the methamphetamine tablets hidden within the tyres of the vehicle.
The driver, identified as Lalrinchhana from Aizawl's Chaltlang area, has been detained. The confiscated drugs and the vehicle have been handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau for further investigation and legal proceedings. This operation underscores a broader issue of regional drug trafficking, with a previous incident in January also highlighting links to Myanmar.
