Efforts to extradite Yagyaraj Awasthi, the prime suspect in the murder of student Angel Chakma, are underway as authorities suspect he might have escaped to Nepal. The police have initiated legal procedures to ensure his return, marking a significant step in seeking justice for the deceased student.
Awasthi, believed to be in Nepal's Kanchanpur district, fled the scene following the December attack. With the arrest of five accomplices, police are focused on apprehending Awasthi, who is crucial to the investigation. Dehradun's Senior Superintendent of Police, Ajay Singh, confirmed the legal steps taking place to bring Awasthi back.
The murder, allegedly involving knives and brass knuckles, has sparked uproar, particularly among students from the Northeast. While racial motives have been suggested by Chakma's family and peers, authorities have not found evidence supporting such claims. Meanwhile, a reward is offered for information leading to Awasthi's arrest, as a Special Investigation Team continues its probe.
