Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, has leveled accusations against the BJP government, claiming it has insulted Shankaracharyas and disrupted Sanatan traditions. His statements follow an incident involving police preventing Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati from taking a ceremonial dip at the holy confluence in Prayagraj.
The dispute intensified when the Magh Mela administration questioned Saraswati's self-proclamation as Shankaracharya of Jyotish Peeth, referencing a Supreme Court ruling on the matter. Yadav alleged that the BJP disrespects religious leaders, contrary to the Sanatan Dharma tradition cherished by devotees.
Yadav argued that the BJP's alleged arbitrary actions are aimed at silencing dissent and truth, accusing them of using government agencies to harass opponents. He maintained that true seers follow the path of truth and not government influence.
